Nottingham Forest are set to complete the signing of Malmo midfielder Fouad Bachirou, according to Swedish news outlet SportExpressen.

It is thought that the Reds have agreed on a fee in the region of £600,000 for the 30-year-old and the deal could be finalised in the coming days.

Bachirou came through the youth academy at PSG before moving to Morton in 2010, spending four years with the Scottish outfit.

He then moved onto Ostersund in Sweden, also spending four years there before earning a move to play for Malmo.

Bachirou has played 94 times for the Swedish giants but now looks set to move to England for the first time and sign terms at the City Ground.

The 18-time Comoros international is typically a defensive midfielder and he could act as a replacement for Ben Watson, who could leave the club this summer.

Samba Sow is another defensive midfielder in the ranks but he faces a race against time to be fit for the 2020/21 campaign and his fitness troubles are a concern.

With that in mind, it does seem to make sense for the Reds to pursue another defence-minded midfielder and it looks as though Bachirou has been identified.

Jack Colback has also been added to the club this summer and he looks set for an integral role in the engine room next season.

Forest could hope that Bachirou has a similar impact to Sow. He arrived for £640,000 last summer as an unknown quantity and when he was fit he proved to be one of the top performers in Sabri Lamouchi’s team last season.

Bachirou represents the first foray into the overseas market this summer and as ever, supporters will need to see the player in action first.

Bachirou seems to have done well in Sweden and he must now prove himself in the Championship.

At £600,000 it seems like a risk worth taking and supporters will hope he emulates Sow, Yuri Ribeiro and Brice Samba, as opposed to Gil Dias and Diogo Goncalves.
